Description
Position OverviewThe Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree Program in CLAS offers a variety of courses, resources, and programs to help students gain the skills, experience, knowledge, and connections needed to prepare them for a meaningful career after graduation.
Instructors are non-tenure-track members of the faculty. Positions vary and are dependent upon the need, if any, each semester for instruction and development of courses. Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. The appointment dates will vary based on the type of appointment and the timeframe for the preparation and instruction of the online course(s).
This position is a union covered position within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of Kansas University (UAKU). UAKU is the exclusive bargaining representative for the bargaining unit.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.
Job Description
This position will instruct an advanced development course designed to help students learn career development, organizational and industrial psychology and/or cross-cultural theories. Students will apply these concepts to their own lifelong career management strategies while and develop cross-cutting skills for a global economy. The course(s) will stress the value of self-reflection, career transitions, exploration, and/or skill building through active learning, experience, and/or discussion.
100% - Instruction:
- Teach a specified number of courses per semester. Courses are taught at the undergraduate level and may be taught face-to-face, hybrid or online.
- Deliver the course content and curriculum as designed
- Administer assignments, tests, evaluate student work, provide timely feedback to students, and assign grades.
- Correspond regularly with students though email and Canvas. Regular interaction with students is expected.
- Be available for students involved in classes taught. "Office hours" may include a set time where students can contact the instructor but must also include expectations for timely responses to student inquiries outside of a set contact time.
- Adhere to departmental, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and university policies.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in business, higher education, counseling psychology, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in business, higher education, counseling psychology, or related field and five years of experience.
- Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by application materials
- Expertise on the topic being taught from educational or employment experience
- Must be available to meet with faculty and students as needed
- At least one semester teaching experience in the classroom, or an online course and using the Canvas Learning Management System.
