Description
Position OverviewThe Undergraduate Biology Program at the University of Kansas invites qualified scholars and professionals to apply for part-time to full-time instructor positions.
The Instructor is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for the Summer 2026 semester. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.
The Instructor is a union covered position within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of Kansas University (UAKU). UAKU is the exclusive bargaining representative for the bargaining unit. As the State of Kansas is a right to work state, you have the right to be a member or not to be a member of the union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.
Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Specifically, we cannot currently offer employment to candidates residing in the following states: California, Delaware, Idaho, and Minnesota. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.
Job Description
100% - Instructional Duties:
- As an instructor for the university's primary duties and responsibilities include: teaching in a specific field, developing course materials, developing and managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising students and holding office hours.
- All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in the field, and are required to adhere to departmental, school/college and university policies and procedures.
- Teach one or more undergraduate courses per semester. Teach appropriate curricula and grade by criteria outlined on syllabus. Write and administer quizzes and exams; grade exams, student papers, etc.
- Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the instructor must make arrangements for a substitute to teach the class. Classes should not be canceled.
- The instructor should be available for reasonable appointments if a student cannot meet during scheduled office hours.
Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in c.v., and (3) information provided from professional references if requested.
For Instruction of Undergraduate-Level Courses:
- Master's degree in biology (e.g., ecology, microbiology, molecular biology)
- Teaching experience (classroom or online) at the university level, as evidenced by letter of application and teaching history.
- Expertise on topic being taught (from educational or employment experience).
