Role Summary: This position is responsible for assisting with labor relations including contract administration for faculty and staff. Serves as a specialist to the Labor Relations Manager in the administration of 6 labor agreements, including: Faculty; Supervisory and Managerial; Professional-Technical; Administrative Support; Maintenance and Operational; and Public Safety Officers. The Labor Relations Specialist is also responsible for creating a positive impression of Human Resources and Mott Community College by providing excellent customer service and resolving routine matters presented by customers. The Labor Relations Specialist works collaboratively with other members of Human Resources to appropriately serve the College’s employees.
Supervisory Responsibility: The Labor Relations Specialist may occasionally share supervision of work study students and/or temporary employees for specific projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist, Labor Relations Specialist, or in a comparable role with direct union interaction
- At least two years of experience interpreting and administering contract language
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, particularly the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- Ability to acquire and synthesize new knowledge that translates to improved operational effectiveness and competencies that support the position’s necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Certificate in Labor Relations is a plus
Work Schedule: Full-time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be able to be flexible around the needs of the College, which includes occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
The College has two modes of work, which are 1) on-site (100% physically at the College worksite), 2) hybrid (time split between remote and on-site). On-site and remote days are determined by the needs of the department. All new hires are expected to work on-site in a full time capacity until their supervisor deems it appropriate for the employee to work in a hybrid capacity.
