Job Description:
Budget Title: Postdoctoral Associate (SL-1)
Salary: $71,000 (full-time, temporary)
The Binghamton University Libraries invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate with a focus in research data management planning and open data.
The Associate will explore emerging topics and practices to advance the Libraries' programming, services and research related to research data management, scholarship, and data curation.
This position offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across Binghamton University and the State University of New York (SUNY) System to strengthen institutional capacity for publishing, preserving and stewarding research outputs through the SUNY Research Data Repository, currently under development. Through this work, the Associate will help further position Binghamton University Libraries as a partner in the University's research enterprise and in supporting responsible, accessible, and sustainable research dissemination.
The Postdoctoral Associate will pursue an active research agenda while contributing to the creation and implementation of local workflows that will strengthen the Libraries. Sample responsibilities depending on applicant's background include: providing guidance and support for research data management planning, including data organization, open data practices, and the deposit and stewardship of research outputs in the SUNY data repository and disciplinary repositories. The incumbent will have essential skills in programming and familiarity with principles of federally mandated practices surrounding open data and the related academic tools and vendors that support ethical compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This 12-month appointment is designed as a mentored research and professional development experience. The Postdoctoral Associate will pursue an active research agenda while collaborating with Libraries faculty and interdisciplinary partners, periodically contributing as a guest lecturer or instructional collaborator. The Associate will receive structured mentorship, participate in professional development opportunities across the University, and be supported in pursuing approved external training and conference opportunities aligned with their scholarly and career goals.
Requirements:
- PhD within the last 5 years in Information and Library Science or a closely related field
- Demonstrated research experience in academic publishing, data curation, informatics, or related area
- Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and develop productive professional partnerships
Preferred:
- Demonstrated success with creative data projects in library science or related fields.
- Record of scholarly activity related to experiential learning
