Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Manager, Recreation and Sports will be responsible for coordinating and supervising recreational sports and managing indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, to include club sports, intramural sports, special events, and fitness & wellness programs. Will coordinate and supervise student workers, full time support, and part time support staff. Responsible for maintaining and monitoring corresponding budgets and expenditures for all program levels.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manage all operations of the college's student center, recreation, sports, and student wellness programs, including the hiring and supervision of employees, and budgeting
- Coordinate, schedule, and evaluate campus-wide intramural sports, wellness programs, and sport clubs; this includes contracts, facilities and safety logistics, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, and assisting with campus calendar management in R25
- Ensure attendance, performance, and adherence to college policy and procedures
- Supervise the daily operations of recreational facilities (student center & outdoor recreational facilities), which include but are not limited to scheduling, facility management, risk management, and general policy control; schedule and facilitate departmental staff meetings
- Hire, train, schedule, develop, and monitor departmental staff
- Coordinate with the graphic designers to create departmental marketing materials and resources; market recreational programs through printed materials, social media, websites, and any other appropriate channels
- Develop, participate in, and promote programs emphasizing wellness and the importance of a healthy lifestyle; evaluate programs and revise processes and procedures as needed
- Provide individual support or counseling in general wellness or nutrition
- Maintain inventory for recreation, sports, and wellness programs; collect, report and assess data pertaining to recreational sports programs, facilities, and services; track and record daily statistical information pertaining to facility usage and event participation
- Handle low-level student disciplinary issues that occur within student recreational facilities and at sport club competitions, maintaining appropriate documentation and referring more significant concerns through standard LSC procedures
- Review and update recreational facility policies and procedures as needed
- Collaborate with LSC sport club personnel and external sport club conference leadership to plan and organize LSC-CyFair participation in leagues
- Respond to student questions, requests, and complaints in a timely manner
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of recreational sports and/or sport clubs
- Strong attention to accuracy and detail
- Excellent knowledge of general office and software applications
- Ability to prepare and analyze reports
- Possesses good organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize duties

PHYSICAL ABILITES:
The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary
Hiring salary range is $48,152 - $55,375.
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer. The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
