The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Department of General Dentistry seeks a full-time non-tenure Assistant/Associate Professor. This position plays a pivotal role in the UT Health Science Center College of Dentistry, contributing to the education, clinical training, and professional development of dental students. This faculty member will be actively engaged across multiple sub-departments, including Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), Operative Dentistry, and the Group Leader Program, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for students.
Responsibilities
TEACHING AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT:
- Deliver didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical instruction in General Dentistry, ensuring students develop competency in evidence-based practices.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION AND PATIENT CARE:
- Provide hands-on clinical training, guiding students in diagnostic, preventive, and restorative procedures.
- Supervise students working as either an Operative Dentist or Group leader, ensuring adherence to best practices in patient care.
- Act as a supervising doctor in the Dental Hygiene program, offering clinical oversight and mentorship.
- Maintain an active role in faculty practice, contributing to patient care and clinical research initiatives.
- Provide mentorship to residents within the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program.
INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION AND INSTITUTIONAL SERVICE:
- Work closely with faculty across various dental disciplines to integrate interdisciplinary approaches into resident education.
- Participate in faculty committees, accreditation processes, and strategic planning initiatives to support institutional goals.
- Engage in community outreach programs, promoting oral health education and access to care.
RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES:
- Contribute to departmental research, supporting advancements in General Dentistry techniques and education.
- Mentor students and junior faculty in research projects, publications, and presentations.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in dentistry, integrating them into teaching and clinical practice.
Requirements
Qualifications
EDUCATION: DDS/DMD or equivalent degree.
LICENSES: Eligibility for a Tennessee Dental License or a teaching license.
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:
- Experience in private practice or advanced graduate training in General Dentistry.
- Prior teaching experience preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in electronic health records and contemporary dental techniques.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to interdisciplinary collaboration and clinical environment.
