The Pre-K Instructor serves as the lead teacher for a classroom of children, ensuring a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment while supporting children's growth and school readiness. The position also supports the ECEC's role as a university-based teaching site by mentoring students and maintaining compliance with state licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards.
The Pre-K Instructor serves as the lead teacher for a classroom of three-year-old
children at the Early Childhood Education Center and is responsible for
providing high-quality early childhood education in alignment with
developmentally appropriate practice, state licensure requirements, and
NAEYC accreditation standards.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
1. Instruction and Classroom Leadership
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum
that supports cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical
development of children. Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and
engaging classroom environment that promotes exploration, curiosity, and
positive behavior. Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children's
development and use data to inform instruction and communicate progress.
2. Child Development and Family Engagement- Foster supportive relationships
with children, communicate regularly with families, partner with families to
support each child's individual needs and developmental goals.
3. Supervision and Mentorship- mentor student workers, practicum students,
and interns from the HDFS program and related disciples. Model best
practices in early childhood education.
4. Collaboration and Program Support- Collaborate with ECEC staff and HDFS
Faculty and interdisciplinary partners to support teaching, research, and
outreach activities. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and
continuous improvement efforts.
5. Compliance and Quality Assurance- ensure classroom practices meet
Louisiana state licensing regulations and maintain compliance with all health
safety, and supervision standards. Support ongoing accreditation efforts,
including adherence to National Association for Education of Young
Children standards.
6. Program Operations- Manage daily classroom routines, schedules, and
transitions effectively. Maintain classroom materials, supplies, and learning
environments, contribute to the overall mission of the ECEC.
