Job Description:

Budget Title: Postdoctoral Associate (SL-1)

Salary: $80,000 (full-time, 12-month, temporary)

The Binghamton University Libraries invite applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellow as the Postdoctoral Associate through SUNY's Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG+) program to begin in Fall 2027. The Postdoctoral Associate whose work will advance research and practice in information analytics, organizational assessment, user experience, and evidence-informed decision making. Working at a Carnegie R1 research university, the Associate will explore how information generated through library services, collections, digital environments, and user interactions can be transformed into actionable knowledge that improves organizational performance, enhances user experiences, and demonstrates the impact of research libraries.

The PRODiG+ Fellowship is designed with two primary goals: (1) increase the number and share of excellent and diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pathway for retention and support of these candidates. This Fellowship is for a 12-month appointment for two years (AY27-AY29). The fellow will collaborate with faculty members and receive enhanced support and mentorship by way of career exploration within the Libraries with the goal of developing library career based skills for conversion to a tenure-track senior assistant librarian position upon successful completion of the position as described.

This position offers a unique opportunity to bridge scholarship and practice. Working collaboratively with library faculty and staff, the Associate will investigate emerging approaches to information analytics, assessment methodologies, user behavior, data visualization, and organizational learning while developing sustainable frameworks and workflows that strengthen library services, inform strategic planning, and support organizational decision making. A key responsibility will be designing scalable methods for collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and communicating organizational data to demonstrate institutional progress and impact. Through this work, the Associate will help further position the Libraries as a leader in evidence-based practice and as an essential partner in the University's research enterprise.

The Associate will contribute to the educational mission of the Libraries by designing and leading an undergraduate research internship program focused on information analytics, assessment, user experience, and evidence-informed decision making. The Associate will also establish an undergraduate research internship program that engages students in applied projects focused on information analytics, assessment, and user experience.

To support the internship program, the Associate will develop and teach a two-course undergraduate sequence introducing students to assessment methodologies, information behavior, user experience research, information analytics, data visualization, and the communication of evidence for organizational planning and decision making. Both courses will emphasize project-based learning using authentic library datasets and real-world information challenges.

The internship program, courses, and applied research agenda are intended to provide a flexible framework. The successful candidate will have considerable latitude to shape these experiences based on their scholarly interests and expertise while advancing the Libraries' strategic priorities and contributing to emerging areas of library and information science

Binghamton University Libraries' Glenn G. Bartle Library is home to a newly renovated 35,000 sf third floor which includes a growing Digital Scholarship Center. The facility boasts a state-of-the-art modular classroom as well as attached Data and Recording Studios equipped with specialized and open software. The 3,000 sf MakerLab and complimenting gallery are flanked by private and group study spaces and condensed shelving with over 400,000 browsable physical materials. The open access interdisciplinary laboratory engages students in a way that excites them about future professional practice as creators and analysts through supervised experimentation, research mentorship, and targeted high-impact experiences.

Requirements:

• Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship (Note: if you currently need sponsorship or will need it in the future to maintain employment authorization, you do not meet the eligibility requirements for this position.)
• Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library or information science program or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent;
• Related Doctoral degree from an accredited institution completed prior to start date;
• Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/ unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.

Preference will be given to candidates who are:

• Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.
• From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research.
• Experience with survey design, usability teaching, ethnographic methods, or other user research techniques.
• Experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate students.
• Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
