- SENIOR DIRECTOR-DEVELOPMENT II- O'Neal Cancer Center
Description
General Responsibilities:
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Senior Director of Development II with the Office of Advancement and Heersink School of Medicine for the O’Neal Cancer Center. This position will be expected to develop fundraising priorities and seek to grow philanthropic success through established metrics on an annual basis – including dollar, visit, solicitations and proposals presented goals. The Senior Director of Development II will be experienced in developing complex projects and have experience implementing strategies for a highly complex fundraising team. The incumbent will lead and direct a team to meet yearly metrics, provide professional development opportunities, and provide leadership to a volunteer Advisory Board.
The Senior Director of Development II position is expected to design and implement plans for annual giving, grateful patient, and principal, major and mid-level gifts. This position will function as an integral part of a team partnering with central Advancement teams to maximize philanthropic support.
This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Development.
This position is hybrid eligible after the probationary period.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Work with physicians, faculty and Department chairs to identify potential sources of private gift support and develop appropriate strategies to generate major and principal gifts to support the O’Neal Cancer Center.
2. Manage an overall strategic vision for the development office including developing and implementing fundraising strategies and plans.
3. Raise major and principal gifts from multiple donor groups (corporations, foundations, grateful patients, and community).
4. Build and manage a portfolio of high-worth principal gift donors and prospects while also managing a team including hiring, setting individual and team metrics, and coaching/developing all team members.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or related field and eight (8) years of related experience is required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 8 years of higher education fundraising or equivalent experience
Minimum of 5 years major gift experience with demonstrated success
Experience working in healthcare
Preferences:
Ability to conceive, plan and implement fundraising programs which focus on building internal and external relationships
Ability to lead and mentor a development staff while also successfully meeting performance metrics
Ability to lead and advise volunteer leadership board
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
CRM usage and management
Knowledge of HIPAA-compliant fundraising practices in healthcare philanthropy
Intermediate Financial Modeling
Political Acumen / Social Awareness
Stakeholder management (internal and/or volunteer)
Strong organizational, process and planning skills
Strong emotional intelligence, interviewing skills and able to receive and give constructive feedback
