Sadie Halstead Middle School 1.0 FTE 5-8 Special Education Teacher
(Continuing Contract)
Reports to: Building Principal and Coordinator of Special Programs
Major Responsibilities:
1. Implement district and building philosophies and goals.
2. Coordinate and implement individual behavior plans.
3. Implement adopted curricular programs and provide for individual learning needs of students.
4. Provide academic guidance and counseling for students under his/her direction.
5. Write and implement sound, legal individual educational programs for students under his/her direction.
6. Maintain appropriate student records.
7. Maintain and promote own personal professional growth through appropriate class work,
workshops, reading of professional materials, etc.
8. Meet with parents and special services staff on a regular basis.
9. Work as a team member with special services staff, basic education staff, and community
in implementation of this program.
10. Be responsible for constructive classroom management and environment.
11. Consult on a regular basis with staff members concerning education and interventions.
12. Assist in coordination of services and support staff.
13. Write appropriate specially designed instruction and provide instructional modifications for students.
14. Write and complete functional behavior assessments and behavior plans and follow through with implementation.
15. Be able to assist (physically and verbally) and move with child to various sites (e.g. outside for recess/bus, gym for P.E., stage for music, library and bathroom (assisting with diapers and toileting training).
16. May require working with medically fragile student(s), under the direction from the school nurse.
17. Must be flexible in working with students assigned to your caseload.
18. Complete referral, evaluation and re-evaluations on students assigned and special education paperwork.
19. Meet deadlines and timeline requirements on all paperwork.
20. Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
1. Must possess Washington State Certification with an endorsement in special education.
2. Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
3. Preference given to demonstrated ability to relate well with at-risk students.
4. Preference given to those applicants with IEP On-Line experience.
5. Must submit a complete application packet.
6. Preference given to those with Special Education experience including working with students with cognitive and adaptive needs.
7. Preference given to quality current references.
8. Preference given to candidates with multiple endorsements or areas of highly qualified.
9. Preference given to applicants with demonstrated experience and success at elementary and middle school level.
